Advent at Anchor: Joy
The truth about Joy that we find in the Word of God are that Joy is an Invaluable Gift from God that radiates to others, Trusting God brings Undeniable Joy and Peace, and Lasting Joy is possible when we follow God’s truths.
Advent at Anchor: Love
Even non-christians understand this at this time of year, right? What’s the catchphrase that’s always thrown out at this time of year? “It’s better to give than to receive”. As we saw in John 3:16 a few minutes ago, the way God expressed His love was by giving. One of the ways we express love at Christmas is by giving. And when we’re all giving, and giving, and giving… Love spreads across the world.
Advent at Anchor: Peace
“I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid. John 14:27 (NLT)
Advent at Anchor: Hope
Advent is a time of preparation for the birth of Christ. God wants the best possible life for us, and hope doesn’t have to end just because the Christmas season does. The hope of Jesus gives us hope to our past, for our present, and for our future.
A Cautionary Tale
A cautionary tale is defined as a tale told in folklore to warn its listener of a danger. Basically, it's a story of something going wrong, a story of what not to do as a warning. The Good News is that salvation comes by faith and faith alone, from start to finish. But just because we put our faith and trust in God at some point, doesn’t mean we are eternally secure. We have to put our faith and trust in God daily because, according to this passage, salvation is conditional. Our trust has to remain in him.
Be a Bringer
God puts people in our lives based on our abilities and our trustworthiness. If we want to reach more and more people, we need to take care of what we God has already put right in front of us. When we’re doing that, and God knows he can trust us, he’ll give us more influence with more and more people.
Who Will Go?
The plan, from the beginning, has been for God’s people to reveal Him to the world. We are God’s plan for salvation. Not that we save anybody, but we are the instruments through which He does His work. And just to be clear, God doesn’t need us, he chose us and chose to use us to complete His mission.
Sovereign God
No matter what happens in life, God is sovereign. We should trust that God is who He says He is and He will do everything He has promised. Submitting to His authority gives our lives to His authority and control, completing our response to faithfully live as a child of God.
What We Can Learn from Israel
Learn three basic lessons from Israel in Romans. They that they had a heart for the lost., that God's children are richly blessed, and that God is ultimately sovereign. Remembering these principles will keep us from suffering the same fate as the Israelites.
We Are Loved
How would your life change, how would your life be different, how would it be transformed if you began to be aware of God’s unconditional, continuous, and never ending love for you?
Enduring Anything
Imagine for a second actually trusting Him to come through, actually trusting that God is who He says He is, actually trusting that God will do everything he said He was going to do. What would your life look like?
Life in the Spirit
Living in the Spirit is living a transparent life. It is a life of obedience to God, and it is the very life of Jesus, Himself, given to us by the Holy Spirit. Are you willing to obey Him completely? Are you willing to deny yourself and desire the things of the Spirit?
Growing Together
Growing is not a luxury… it’s a necessity. And we are called to grow together. Imagine a relationship with God that’s deeper and more intimate. This is God’s will for us; that we continue growing in faith… but that we do it together. We are tied together in every way. This is how God always intended it.
Mourning Together
To be a Christ-follower is to be connected with others—to be in relationship with the Church. Jesus did not simply call us to love God, but also to love each other. He established the Church to be a place where believers would encourage one another, provoke one another and challenge one another to good deeds, and where we would bear one another’s burdens.
Rescue is Here
So how’s your war against sin going? Which side are you feeding? Are you making choices that allow the Spirit of God reign in your life? Or are you making choices that keep sin on the throne of your heart? The Good News? We serve a God who has the power to change everything for us no matter what your situation is.
The Purpose of the Law
God gave us His law to teach us about himself. He gave us his law to show us what He cares about. God gave us the law to show us how to be different, like He is different.
Call to Santification
Sanctification is the process of eliminating all behaviors that may grieve Christ and cause others to stumble. You are called to be sanctified. Purified from sin by the power of the Word of God. But sanctification is a life-long process.
